Keep your JSM production on track

We are excited to announce Salto now supports JSM Cloud, bringing automation, tracking, and efficiency to JSM configuration management, to help JSM operators to save time, reduce errors, and keep the JSM production instance on track.

Introducing Salto for JSM Cloud

Managing JSM configurations involves navigating the intricate web of elements such as request types, issue types, SLAs, and more. In complex or sensitive instances when sandbox testing is required, JSM operators need to migrate changes to production by manually copy-pasting them between instances. This manual migration is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive but also prone to errors that can disrupt service for both internal and external users. This sensitivity calls for a precise, efficient, and reliable approach to configuration management.

We are excited to now extend Salto’s support to JSM Cloud, to help address these challenges head-on by offering:

  • Automated one-step migration: Seamlessly move configurations from sandbox to production or between any two instances in a single action, without worrying about the order of the migration or who’ll be impacted while you’re halfway through.
  • Granular configuration migration - Pick and choose what you want to merge between projects/instances to avoid conflicts and reduce redundant work.
  • Complete understanding of change dependencies - Understand the dependencies of all changed elements before pushing them to production to reduce the risk of unexpected behaviors.
  • Complete change tracking via version control - Gain full control of what’s implemented with comprehensive tracking of changes so you’re always on top of what changes were made and by whom.
  • Quick recovery at any given moment - If the system breaks, easily roll back to a previous version for maximum safety of your production instance.
  • Enhanced team efficiency and retention - Free your ITSM teams from manual, error-prone migration tasks, enabling them to focus on strategic efforts and mitigate the impact of team turnover.

When You Should Use Salto for JSM

  • Sandbox-production configuration migrations - If your team is testing changes in a sandbox and then applying them in production, Salto can automate the migration process, saving hours of work.
  • Applying new templates/updates to a few JSM instances - If you have a multi-instance setup that you would like to keep consistent, Salto can help you apply changes to multiple instances in an automated way.
  • Sandbox refresh - If you’d like your testing instance to be updated with the live system configuration snapshot, you can use Salto to copy the existing state of your production instance to the testing instance in a few clicks (including your objects schema). You could copy the entire setup or choose specific components you’d like to align.
  • Implementation and change tracking - If you need more control of what’s implemented, you can use Salto to track snapshots of the implementation and compare versions using Git. You can also set up alerts on changes made to your instance.
  • Collaboration and approvals - If your team has more than one admin and you would like to ensure changes are reviewed and approved, you can use Salto’s built-in PR mechanism and gate your deployments before they end up in production.
